Ford Mondeo ECOnetic sets new fuel saving record

Ford continues to amaze. Well, Ford and Knut Wilhil and Hanrik Borchegrevink. Both gentlemen set a new fuel saving record of 2.8 liters per 100 kilometers while driving the Ford Mondeo ECOnetic. This translates to 18.74 gallons over 1576 miles – 84.098 MPG.

Seems to be size does matter. And sometimes it’s smaller.

Ford EcoBoost Expectations

Ford has some high expectations.

According to Bloomberg, Ford hopes that with 10-25% of its fleet will be equipped with EcoBoost technology by 2020. John Viera, global director of sustainability and vehicle environmental matters, says, “Traditional hybrids are going to dominate electric vehicles. A smaller percentage will be plug-in hybrids and a relatively small number pure battery electric. Affordability dominates and hybrids will be the most affordable purchase price vehicles.”

Ford Taurus Leading-Class EPA Certified with 32MPG

More good news coming out of Detroit – Ford has recently announced the 2012 Ford Taurus is now certified as an EPA class-leader (topping the Chevrolet Impala, Chrysler 300, and Toyota Avalon) with 32MPG and 2.0-Liter EcoBoost engine.

According to Raj Mair, CP of Engineering for Global Product Development, “Ford understands people want fuel-efficient vehicles but don’t want to sacrifice power, cargo space or convenience preferences to get them. Taurus fuel economy showcases Ford’s success in developing smaller yet more powerful engines for its larger vehicles.”
